John Smelcer: Freshman goalkeeper John Smelcer picked up two shutouts to help lead the Bears to three wins last week and improve to 11-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in UAA play. He played the entire 90 minutes in WU's 2-0 win versus Principia College on Monday. On Friday, Smelcer played 82 of the 90 minutes in a 3-0 win against UAA-rival Brandeis University. Then, on Sunday, he played the entire 104:05 minutes and corralled five saves in the 1-0 double overtime win against No. 20 New York University. For the season, Smelcer is 10-3-2 with five shutouts and a 0.54 goals-against average.
Brian Catalano: Brian Catalano registered a pair of 1-0 shutout victories last week, allowing his WPI team to earn a first-round home game in the NEWMAC post-season tournament. The senior from Whitinsville, MA made five saves in a non-conference victory over Westfield State on Wednesday (Oct. 25). He then made three saves, including one on a penalty kick, in leading the Engineers to a win over MIT in the regular season finale on Sunday (Oct. 29). Catalano is now 10-1-2 on the season with an excellent 0.89 GAA and 7 shutouts. His winning percentage of 0.85 is tops in the conference.
Brian Lubeck: Brian played 180 minutes as a central defender in two shutout wins vs Whitman and Whitworth. Led a defense that gave up only 6 shots on goal in two games.
Will Weber: Weber helped the Hornets to three wins in their final three regular season games of the season with six goals and one assist. He netted the game-winning goals in victories over Chowan, Gallaudet and Averett. Webber posted a natural hat trick along with an assist against Averett.
Nate Rausch: Freshman goalkeeper Nate Rausch (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Cuyahoga Falls) made 14 saves and allowed only two goals in 200 minutes of play, leading Hiram past Allegheny, 3-1, and to a 1-1 double overtime time tie with NCAC champion Ohio Wesleyan. Hiram finished with a 2-5-2 conference record, 9-6-2 overall.
Ben Ryugo: Sophomore Ben Ryugo scored the game-winning goal in WU's 3-0 win Friday against Brandeis University. He also helped forge the game-winner against 20th-ranked New York University in Sunday. Ryugo has three goals and three assists this season, including two game-winning goals. The Bears also defeated Principia College, 2-0, last Monday to move their unbeaten streak to six games and improve to 11-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.
Andrew Hamilton: Junior forward Andrew Hamilton scored all three of the Maroons' goals as Chicago went 1-0-1 in UAA play. Hamilton tallied the tying goal with seven seconds left in regulation to force a 1-1 tie with 12th-ranked NYU. The next day, he notched a pair of goals as the Maroons defeated Brandeis 2-0.
Logan Eberly: Logan Eberly, freshman forward, Evansville, IN: Eberly recorded his first and second career hat tricks this weekend in wins over conference rival Millsaps College on Saturday and Rust College (MS) on Sunday. Against Millsaps, Eberly scored all three goals, including the game-winner in overtime to defeat the Majors 3-2. On Sunday, Eberly recorded his second hat trick in pacing the Lynx to a 4-0 victory over Rust College. Eberly now has a team-leading 10 goals on the season to go with two assists for a total of 22 points.
Ernest Villarreal: Schreiner freshman forward Ernest Villarreal (Cedar Hill, Texas / CHHS) began the weekend with an assist in a 4-0 road win over Louisiana College and then produced a hat trick on Saturday in a 4-2 victory, also on the road, against Mississippi College that secured the Mountaineers the top seed and the right to host the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. It was Villarreal's first career hat trick.
Michael Mahoney: Junior Michael Mahoney helped Oneonta to a 2-0 week with three goals and two assists. He started the week with a pair of goals and an assist in the Red Dragons 3-1 victory over Lebanon Valley and then added a goal and an assist in Oneonta's 6-1 victory over Morrisville on Saturday. The Red Dragons finish the regular season with a 15-2-1 overall record.
Bob McNees: McNees scored five goals in three matches last week for Grove City (11-5-1), giving him 17 for the season and 63 for his career.
Carrie Sear: Junior goalkeeper Carrie Sear posted a 3-0 record and did not allow a goal in 238 minutes of play as the Bears posted a 3-0 record last week and improved to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in UAA play. Sear played the first half in an 8-0 win over Fontbonne on Monday. On Friday, Sear made three saves in a 3-0 win over Brandeis University. Then, on Sunday, Sear made one save in the 1-0 double overtime victory over New York University as Washington U. clinched the UAA championship and gained the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Sear leads the UAA in goals against average (0.27) and save percentage (.905).
Steph Kowell: Junior goalkeeper Steph Kowell stopped three shots for her 10th victory of the season and remains undefeated at 10-0-1. This was her seventh shutout of the season and has lowered her goals against average to 0.44. the Golden Eagles have won 10 in a row and are unbeaten in its last 12.
Ally Tucker: Tucker recorded a pair of shutouts in HCAC play this past week, keeping Transy undefeated at 8-0-0 in the HCAC standings. The shutouts came in a 2-0 win over Mt. St. Joseph and a 1-0 win over Manchester, bringing Transy to a 14-1 regular season record. For the season, Tucker has a 0.52 GAA, allowing six goals in over 1,041 minutes, and recording seven shutouts. Tucker has a GAA of .14 in HCAC play and has only allowed 1 goal in 630 minutes of play.
Katy Spear: Kenyon junior defender Katy Spear (Cincinnati, OH/Indian Hill) scored the game-winner in the title-clinching, 1-0, win over Earlham. The championship is the first for the Ladies and they enter the NCAC Tournament as the number one seed.
Laura Newbrough: Hardin-Simmons junior defender Laura Newbrough (Sacramento, Calif. / Montana HS) spearheaded a unit that allowed just three shots over two conference wins and upped their shutout streak to seven games - 11 on the season. Newbrough's performance - which included chipping in two goals - allowed the No. 10-ranked Cowgirls to clinch the league's top seed and the right to host the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament for the fourth straight year.
Hannah Yang: Yang had two goals and an assist in Grove City's 9-0 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Thiel Thursday. On Saturday, Yang scored twice in Grove City's 4-4 draw against Thomas More in PAC action. Yang scored in the first minute to give Grove City a quick 1-0 lead. She then sent the match into OT with a goal in the 85th minute. Yang also had an assist against Penn State Behrend Tuesday, giving her 10 points (4 G, 2 A) for the week.
Christina Adams: Totaled a team-high seven points (3G, 1A) in two conference wins last week at Bethany (6-1) on Oct. 25 and home vs. Waynesburg (3-0) on Oct. 28. Figured in on the first three goals of a 6-1 win at Bethany with an assist and two goals. She scored her three goals on just seven shots for a .429 shooting percentage.
MeghanMarie Fowler-Finn: Senior MeghanMarie Fowler-Finn scored four goals in the Bears three victories last week. Fowler-Finn scored one goal in the 8-0 win at Fontbonne on Monday, and followed that up with two goals in the 3-0 win over Brandeis on Friday. Fowler-Finn ended the week by scoring the game-winning goal in the 104th minute in the 1-0 double overtime victory over New York University on Sunday. With the win against NYU, Washington U. clinched its fourth UAA title in school history and the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Bears also notched their 13th-consecutive victory, breaking the school record of 12 set in 1998 and 2000.
Stephanie Ellwanger: Junior forward Stephanie Ellwanger scored two goals, including the tiebreaking gamewinner in the 83rd minute in Central College's upset on the road at Wartburg College Saturday 4-3. It was Central's first win over Wartburg since 2000 and only the team's second conference victory of the year. Central had scored just four goals combined in seven previous Iowa Conference games before Saturday's outburst. Ellwanger was named the Iowa Conference player of the week earlier Monday.
Alex Schoepf: McMurry freshman forward Alex Schoepf (Frisco, Texas) came up big in the clutch, scoring three of her team's four goals to guide them to four points to close out the season. Schoepf recorded a goal in the 72nd minute on Friday to force overtime in a 1-1 tie with Mary Hardin-Baylor. Then on Saturday, she scored twice - including the game-winner in double overtime of a 3-2 victory against Howard Payne. Schoepf took 15 shots - eight on goal - over the two games.
Sara Roeder: Sara Roeder was a key performer in two wins for the Ducks last week. In a 3-2 win over sixth-ranked Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Roeder assisted on the first two goals of the game for Stevens as the Ducks overcame a 2-0 deficit. On Saturday, she scored the game-winner in the 26th minute of a 3-0 win over Centenary. Roeder is the Ducks' leading scorer this season with 11 goals and 12 assists for 34 points.
